Finch Restorations – Automotive Body Finisher
(Surfacing & Fitment Specialist)

Finch Restorations has been preserving and restoring significant vehicles for six decades. Our work spans classic cars, heritage trucks, and historically important vehicles, with a strong focus on craftsmanship, correctness, and quality workmanship. We are now expanding our Body & Paint capability and are seeking a specialist who can deliver restoration-level surfacing and fitment standards.

Why Join Finch?

  • Restoration-level work: Precision surfacing and fitment for high-value classic vehicles – not volume crash repair.
  • Craft-driven environment: A team that respects traditional technique, judgement, and doing the job properly.
  • Modern flagship facility: Work from our expanding Hindmarsh site, purpose-developed for premium restoration outcomes.
  • Balanced work patterns: 9-day fortnights and flexible start times (role-dependent).
  • Long-term stability: Diverse project pipeline and a reputation built over decades.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, workshop-based role focused on surfacing and fitment excellence. Typical duties include:

  • Precision alignment and contouring of panels to restoration standards.
  • High-level panel fitment, including consistent gaps, edge alignment, and door/bonnet/boot lid fit.
  • Final contouring and surface development suitable for premium refinishing outcomes.
  • Metal finishing using traditional techniques (hammers, dollies, spoons) to achieve accurate surfaces.
  • Minimising filler through careful shaping and controlled surfacing methods.
  • Filler-free surfacing where appropriate, and refinement of repairs for a correct final profile.
  • Working closely with body, paint, and project teams to ensure consistent finish quality across the vehicle.
  • Maintaining clear documentation and workshop housekeeping consistent with premium work standards.

Note: This role is not focused on coachbuilding or fabrication. Structural repairs and panel replacement are not core requirements for this position.

About You

  • Trade-qualified as an Automotive Panel Beater / Body Repair Technician (or equivalent proven experience).
  • Demonstrated experience producing high-precision surfacing and fitment outcomes.
  • Strong capability in traditional straightening and metal finishing techniques.
  • Quality-driven mindset with an excellent eye for contour, symmetry, and consistency.
  • Comfortable working independently, while collaborating closely with a broader restoration team.
  • Australian work rights (citizen, permanent resident, NZ citizen, or valid visa).

Personal Attributes

  • Meticulous and proud of workmanship – you notice what others miss.
  • Calm, methodical, and consistent under deadlines.
  • Clear communicator who respects process, documentation, and safe workshop practice.
