Shape the Future of Preserving the Past with Finch Restorations

[ref: paint202403]

Finch Restorations is Australia's premier vehicle restoration firm. We specialise in the complete body-off, ground-up restoration of Veteran to Modern-Classic era (1890-1990) cars, trucks, and motor-cycles, and we do much more!

We have a team of highly experienced professionals who have a deep understanding of all aspects of the restoration process. Our workshops are equipped with the technologies, tools, and equipment to ensure that projects are completed to the highest standards of quality and authenticity.

Celebrating six decades of excellence, we are excited to expand our team at our new flagship site at Hindmarsh, near the Adelaide CBD, dedicated to restoring the glory of classic, prestige, and vintage vehicles for the future generations.

Our New Branch

We are establishing a new flagship branch in Hindmarsh close to the Adelaide Enterainment Centre. A two stage process, we are currently establishing our Paint Shop in stage one. Stage two incorporates areas for restorations, repairs and maintenance, Trim Shop, and concierge vehicle storage.

This role will require some induction and training in our Mount Barker branch, helping to establish the new Paint Shop at Hindmarsh, some works in a third-party booth temporarily used to aid the transition, and subsequently full transition to the new Hindmarsh branch.

This role will be based at our new branch in Hindmarsh.

The Role: Head Painter

As our Head Painter, you will play a pivotal role in the critical aspect of what people see in our final products - the exterior paint coatings. That is true regardless of whether each of our clients request an eye-popping paint scheme or a craftily repaired or micmicked patina.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day safe and efficient running of the Paint Shop including control of allocated work, completion of records, and maintaining safe working practises.
  • Responsible for the smooth progression of projects through the workshop including allocation of personnel and timely purchase of materials, fixings and fastenings and machine tools.
  • Responsible for the quality of the work carried out and perform quality inspections of work.
  • Review and check vehicle bodies, chassis, frames, and componentry readiness for prepping and painting.
  • Prepare and mask items for subsequent priming and/or painting.
  • Colour-match and apply consistent quality coatings to vehicle bodies, chassis, frames, and componentry.
  • Polish finished paintwork.
  • Lacquer and polish timber and timber-veneered trim.

About You

Your skills and attributes include:

  • Being a qualified Refinisher / Spray Painter with five to fifteen years of experience and a demonstrable portfolio of quality projects (essential).
  • Holding an AQF Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology. Holding a AQF Certificate IV and/or NACE qualification would be well regarded but not essential.
  • Experience restoring and refinishing classic and/or vintage cars, trucks and/or motorcycles of 30-120 years of age (desirable).
  • Able to colour-match and apply consistent quality coatings to vehicle bodies, chassis, frames, and componentry.
  • Able to visualise the end-product, have a great eye for detail, and take great pride in your work.
  • Commitment to high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, with a passion for preserving automotive history while embracing future technologies.
  • Being an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa with permission to work in Australia.

Other automotive skillsets, particularly panel-beating and/or timber veneer lacquering and polishing, would be highly regarded.
