Finch Restorations – Specialist Motorbike Mechanic (Hindmarsh / Adelaide Hills)
Finch has been preserving and restoring significant vehicles for six decades. Our teams work across classic cars, heritage trucks, and motorcycles, with a strong focus on traditional mechanical skill and quality workmanship.
Important note: While this role has a strong motorcycle focus, we also welcome applications from experienced generalist mechanics who are comfortable working across classic vehicles and are interested in supporting motorcycle work as part of a broader mechanical capability.
Why Join Finch?
- Meaningful work: Hands-on mechanical work on classic and vintage machines, not production-line servicing.
- Real variety: Restoration support, recommissioning, fault-finding, and careful commissioning work.
- Traditional mechanical skill: Older systems, proper diagnostics, and workmanship that stands up to scrutiny.
- Multi-site capability: Work across our Hindmarsh flagship site and our Adelaide Hills workshops.
- Balanced work patterns: 9-day fortnights and flexible start times (role-dependent).
About the Role
This is a workshop-based position supporting motorcycle work across our branches (location mix can be discussed). Typical duties include:
- Servicing, repairing, and recommissioning classic and vintage motorcycles.
- Diagnosis and rectification of faults across fuel, ignition, charging, starting, braking, and driveline systems.
- Engine work as required (inspection, measurement, repair, overhaul, and commissioning).
- Carburettor strip and rebuild, jetting, tuning, and synchronisation where applicable.
- Working confidently on pre-computer systems (points ignition, magnetos, mechanical regulators, and related systems).
- Stripping, labelling, and storing assemblies as part of restoration projects, with clear documentation.
- Fabricating, machining, or adapting parts that are no longer available (highly regarded).
- Test riding and controlled testing (where appropriate) and completing job documentation to a high standard.
About You
- Trade qualification as a Motor Mechanic / Motorcycle Mechanic (or equivalent proven experience).
- Strong experience working on classic or vintage motorcycles, or strong demonstrable capability on older mechanical systems.
- Competent with non-computerised diagnostics and systematic mechanical fault-finding.
- Comfortable working independently, while collaborating closely with a broader restoration team.
- Australian work rights (citizen, permanent resident, NZ citizen, or valid visa).
Personal Attributes
- Meticulous, quality-driven, and takes pride in workmanship.
- Practical problem-solver with a calm, methodical approach.
- Clear communicator who respects process, documentation, and safe workshop practice.
