About the Business

Finch Restorations is Australia's oldest car restoration business and is still growing. We have four workshop sites in Mount Barker where we carry out restorations. In Woodside we have a fifth site where we undertake automotive repairs and servicing. Mount Barker and Woodside are both in the Adelaide Hills just 20 minutes up the South-Eastern Freeway from the Old Tollgate.

About the Role

We seek a passionate, experienced, and qualified 'Old School' Mechanic to join our team to repair and maintain vehicles of 30-120 years of age.

Duties include:

  • Assess restoration requirements of vehicles to complete to the required level.
  • Organise the disassembly of vehicle parts for labelling and proper storage until reassembly.
  • Dismantle, check and inspect engines and driveline components for wear and damage.
  • Repair and recondition engines and driveline components.
  • Diagnose reasons for engine and equipment failure.
  • Assemble engines and driveline components after repair.
  • Install engines and driveline components in vehicles.
  • Carry out vehicle repairs and/or maintenance and diagnosis of problems.
  • Perform maintenance, fault diagnosis, mechanical rectification, component installation and/or assembly of predominantly pre-1980s (pre-computer age) vehicles.
  • Mechanical overhauls of drive-line units and components.
  • Reverse engineering, machining and manufacture of componentry.
  • Diagnostic and critical road testing, tuning and refining of finished work.
  • Road testing with customers to help fault diagnosis. Travel to various sites and undertake inspections, and perform in-situ repairs.
  • Prepare technical reports.

To be eligible, you will:

  • Know what points are.
  • Have at least 10 years of suitable experience as a mechanic.
  • Have experience restoring classic and/or vintage cars, trucks or motorcycles (desirable).
