A Unique Automotive Treasure

This remarkable vehicle is the only known surviving example of the Hispano-Suiza Type 26 Roadster. Originally crafted with extraordinary attention to detail, it exemplifies the engineering prowess and elegance of early 20th-century European automobiles.

Production of the Type 26 was cut short by the outbreak of World War I in 1914. With only 56 units ever built, most were lost to time, making this particular roadster an unparalleled artifact of motoring history.

Restoration by Finch Restorations

Recognising the importance of this vehicle, its owner, a collector from New South Wales, Australia, entrusted the renowned Finch Restorations with the delicate and meticulous restoration process. In 2000, the experts at Finch brought the roadster back to its former glory, ensuring historical accuracy and mechanical perfection.

The restoration involved extensive research, sourcing of authentic materials, and painstaking craftsmanship to retain its original design while ensuring roadworthiness. Every detail, from the elegant coachwork to the finely tuned engine, was restored to concours-winning standards.

Pebble Beach Triumph

Following its full restoration, the Hispano-Suiza was shipped to the United States to compete at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2003. Competing against some of the finest classic cars globally, it impressed judges and enthusiasts alike, ultimately winning its class.

The win at Pebble Beach cemented its place as one of the most significant and well-preserved pre-war automobiles in existence.

Legacy and Historical Significance

Today, this Hispano-Suiza Roadster Type 26 remains a cherished piece of automotive history, embodying the artistry, innovation, and spirit of early motoring. Its story is one of survival, dedication, and passion—highlighting the importance of expert restoration in preserving our automotive heritage.

Finch Restorations is proud to have played a role in restoring this irreplaceable classic, ensuring its legacy continues for generations to admire and appreciate.
