Swaging, Hammer Drawing, & Headlight Buckets (Mudguard 4)

Learning Objective:

At the conclusion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

• Appropriate use and operation of Pullmax and bead roller.
• Use a Pullmax and bead roller to swage components.
• Produce swages by using hand-tools.
• Recognise and perform the technique of (hammer-) drawing.
• Describe the process of annealing in different metals.

Pre-Requisites:

Successful completion of Seminar MS203.

You will need to purchase and bring/wear your own:

Theory / Method Discussion:

• Appropriate use and operation of Pullmax and bead roller.
• Measures to minimise buckling and distorting after swaging.
• Blocking and setting swages by hand.
• Introducing hammer-drawing metal.
• Sequence of operations performed when drawing a headlight bucket.
• Fundamentals of annealing metal.

Exercises:

• Forming swage with Pullmax and bead roller.
• Swage wired edge on mudguard.
• Blend edge-swage to centre-swage.
• Forming swage by hand.
• Drawing a flange on a configuration like a door frame corner.
• Drawing Headlight bucket for mudguard.
