Decorative Metalwork Techniques & Repoussé Work (Mudguard 2)

Learning Objective:

At the conclusion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

• Perform basic metal finishing operations.
• Use blocking techniques to create decorative shapes, repoussé work
• Produce low crown shapes on wheeling machine.

Pre-Requisites:

Successful completion of Seminar MS201.

You will need to purchase and bring/wear your own:

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Metal-Shaping Tool Set*
• Marking-Out Items*
• Starter Round Drift Punch Set*

Theory / Method Discussion:

• Appropriate use of tools and equipment.
• Introduction to metal finishing.
• Wheeling machine techniques for wheeling low crown panels.
• Throwing and stretching flanges on wheeling machine.
• Blocking in and dressing up feature shapes/ repoussé work.
• Introduction to use of sets and drift.

Exercises:

• Block centre swage into top part of mudguard.
• Define and planish centre swage.
• Metal finish area surrounding centre swage.
• Repoussé simple shape.
• Wheel inner skirt for mudguard.
• Throw bottom flange on inner skirt and stretch flange on wheeling machine.
