Vintage Era Vehicle Projects at Finch
Historical Context
The Vintage Era (1919-1930) was a golden age of automotive craftsmanship and luxury, following the rapid industrial advancements of World War I. This period saw the rise of refined engineering, coach-built luxury vehicles, and high-performance touring cars. With economic recovery in many countries, car ownership expanded, and wealthy buyers sought out custom-bodied automobiles with elegant styling and powerful engines.
Automakers such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Bugatti, Duesenberg, Hispano-Suiza, and Alfa Romeo produced some of the most celebrated vehicles of all time. This era also introduced four-wheel brakes, overhead camshaft engines, and synchromesh gearboxes, greatly improving vehicle performance and safety.
While luxury marques dominated, mass production techniques pioneered by **Henry Ford** made automobiles increasingly accessible to middle-class buyers. The **Ford Model T and Austin 7** became staples of this period, defining affordable motoring for a new generation.
