Historical Context

The Veteran and Edwardian Era (1905-1914) marked a time of rapid technical advancements following the crude designs of the Brass Era. This period saw the introduction of four-cylinder engines, multi-speed transmissions, and pneumatic tyres, making automobiles more reliable and drivable.

Luxury automakers such as Rolls-Royce, Hispano-Suiza, Napier, and Renault refined motorcars into high-performance touring vehicles, often with custom coachwork. Meanwhile, the Ford Model T revolutionized mass production, making automobiles more accessible to the general public.

The WWI Era (1915-1918) brought a dramatic shift in automobile production. With the outbreak of World War I, manufacturers turned their focus to military vehicles, transport trucks, and ambulances, leading to major engineering advancements. Civilian automobile production slowed, but the war accelerated innovations in engine performance, durability, and mass production techniques—many of which influenced post-war automotive development.
