Modern-Classic Era Vehicle Projects at Finch
Historical Context
The Modern-Classic Era (1983-1990) represents a pivotal transition in automotive history, where performance, technology, and design evolved rapidly due to advancements in aerodynamics, digital instrumentation, and turbocharging. This era saw a shift towards fuel injection, electronic engine management, and lightweight materials, making cars more refined and powerful than ever before.
Iconic sports cars such as the Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 959, and BMW M3 E30 defined the decade, offering a balance of raw mechanical performance with emerging electronic sophistication. Meanwhile, the rise of Group B rally cars, including the Audi Quattro, Lancia Delta Integrale, and Ford RS200, pushed all-wheel-drive and turbocharging technologies into mainstream production vehicles.
Luxury and grand touring cars also became more advanced, with manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, and Lexus incorporating anti-lock braking systems (ABS), advanced climate control, and early navigation systems into their high-end models. By the end of the decade, the foundation for modern supercars and high-performance sedans had been firmly established.
