Classic Era Vehicle Projects at Finch
Historical Context
The Classic Era (1961-1982) represents a defining period in automotive history, blending elegant design, powerful performance, and increasing technological sophistication. This era saw the emergence of muscle cars, grand tourers, luxury sedans, and high-performance sports cars, marking a golden age for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
American manufacturers such as Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Pontiac dominated the muscle car boom of the 1960s and early 1970s with icons like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Charger, and Pontiac GTO. Meanwhile, European automakers such as Jaguar, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche refined high-performance sports cars, introducing legendary models like the Jaguar E-Type, Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, and Porsche 911.
During the 1970s, the Oil Crisis and tightening emissions regulations led to the decline of high-displacement engines, and manufacturers began adopting fuel injection, turbocharging, and improved aerodynamics to maintain performance. By the early 1980s, advances in computerised engine management and safety systems were shaping the next generation of automobiles.
